Lotto Carpets Gallery, an original tenant of increasingly popular Dempsey Hill, deals in a comprehensive variety of handmade antique and oriental carpets and rugs. Lotto Carpets Gallery boasts one of the largest collections of antique carpets in Southeast Asia.
Chairman of the company, Mr Abid H Mir is the fifth generation of the Mir family in the business, while sons Imran and Noman constitute the sixth generation of the family business. The strong emphasis at Lotto is to impart knowledge rather than deliver a pushy sales pitch. So, customers can get a comprehensive historical and cultural background of any of the carpets in the collection.
A recent relocation to a new block in Dempsey has allowed for an even more impressive display space, showcased by a pair of huge handcrafted doors, 160 years old, from the Swat Valley in Pakistan. This is more a museum than a run-of-the-mill retail store.
And then there are the carpets, enormous quantities of them in gorgeous hues of red, blue and gold – a piece for any apartment, house, wall or floor in Singapore.
